We must rethink the concept of death, to stop fearing the unknown. Understanding that we are not in control of becoming and that it is a natural and irremediable fact is much more liberating than the oppression generated by fear.
What terrifies people about death is not death itself, but the uncertainty that comes with it. We know death from the loss of others, so cemeteries are nothing more than anchors to the past or means to establish a relationship with absence. A gravestone is originally conceived to replace the body of those who are no longer there. This work plays on deception and creates a nostalgic object about something that is not yet lost: a life.
